When you use Koi, we may collect information you provide directly, information created through your use of the app, and certain technical information needed to operate the service.

First name, middle name, and last name

Gender and relationship preferences
Profile details such as bio, lifestyle preferences, politics, religion, gym frequency, children preferences, height, weight, and similar optional profile fields
City, state, ZIP code, and approximate location-related data
Profile photos and other content you upload
Reports, bug reports, support submissions, and feedback
Information created through app activity may include:
Likes, passes, matches, blocks, reports, and related timestamps
Filter settings and matching preferences
Swipe activity and feed interactions
Message and match activity
Calling or call-related activity if calling features are enabled
Account moderation history, warnings, strikes, suspensions, or safety-related actions

Device or app instance identifiers
Push notification tokens
App Check or security verification data

How We Use Information
We may use your information to:
Create and manage your account
Show your profile to other users
Support matching, feed ranking, filters, and mutual compatibility logic
Deliver messages, likes, matches, notifications, and calling features
Improve the quality, safety, and performance of the app

Matching and Ranking Features
Koi may use profile data, filter settings, likes, passes, swipe history, and related in-app behavior to improve what profiles appear in your feed and the order in which they appear.
Optional ranking systems, such as Smart Match, Opposites Attract mode, engagement-based ordering, mutual preference logic, and feed cooldown behavior, may use your activity data to improve feed relevance and safety.
These systems are intended to improve the app experience and do not guarantee matches, responses, or visibility.
Messages, Calls, and User Interactions
If messaging or calling features are available, Koi may process information related to those features in order to make them work, maintain safety, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues. This may include message metadata, match activity, call status information, and related timestamps.
Koi does not promise that all communication features will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
Photos and Content You Upload
Photos and other profile content you upload may be stored and displayed within the app as part of your profile and user experience. We may also review uploaded content when needed for moderation, abuse prevention, or safety investigations.
Koi does not allow nude or sexually explicit content. Uploaded content may be reviewed and removed for safety, moderation, and policy enforcement purposes, and violations may result in account action.
Approximate Location and Profile Discovery
Koi may use location-related information, including approximate location, city, state, ZIP code, or coordinates you provide or that are associated with your account, to support distance-based filtering and profile discovery.
Location-related information may be used to determine whether users fall within each other’s selected search radius.
Blocking, Reporting, and Moderation
If you block or report another user, Koi may store information about that action. Reports and moderation-related information may be used to investigate misconduct, enforce community standards, prevent repeated abuse, and protect users.
Moderation actions may affect account visibility, matching, messaging, feed access, or full account access.
Koi may review and remove reported or uploaded content, including nude or sexually explicit content, for safety and policy enforcement purposes.
Child Safety and Report Handling
Koi has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation, child sexual abuse material, grooming, trafficking, sexual extortion, or any sexual exploitation of minors.
If users report content, messages, photos, profiles, calls, or behavior that may involve child safety risks or other serious safety concerns, Koi may review relevant account information, profile details, uploaded content, message data, call-related metadata, device or account identifiers, and report details for safety, abuse prevention, legal compliance, and enforcement purposes.
Koi may preserve relevant records, restrict or remove accounts, and share information with law enforcement, child safety organizations, or other authorities when required by law or when reasonably necessary to investigate or report serious safety violations.

Notifications and Device Tokens
Koi may collect and store device or messaging tokens to send notifications such as likes, matches, messages, or call-related alerts. Notification delivery depends on device settings, platform services, and technical availability.
How Information May Be Shared
Koi may share information in limited situations such as:
With service providers or infrastructure providers that help operate the app
When necessary to investigate fraud, abuse, spam, safety threats, or legal violations
To comply with legal obligations, lawful requests, or to protect rights, safety, and property
In connection with a business transfer, merger, sale, or restructuring
Koi does not sell your personal information to advertisers.
Data Retention
We may retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain account functionality, support safety and moderation, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our terms.
Some information may remain in backups, logs, security records, or moderation records for a period of time even after content is removed from active use.
Account Deletion
If Koi provides an in-app account deletion option, you may request deletion through the app. Deleting your account may remove your profile, photos, and certain associated data from active use. However, some records may be retained where reasonably necessary for legal compliance, fraud prevention, abuse prevention, safety review, internal recordkeeping, or dispute handling.
Security
Koi uses technical and organizational measures intended to help protect your information. However, no app, service, database, or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children
Koi is intended only for adults age 18 and older. We do not intend the app for children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
Koi may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after updates may mean you accept the revised policy.
